Tegalalang Rice Terrace Sunrise Walk

Thursday · 7 May 2026 · 14:30 WITA

The most photographed rice terraces on the island, walked at sunrise before the day-trip crowds and the souvenir stalls open.

Tegalalang's tiered rice paddies are best seen at first light, before the tour buses arrive from Ubud and Kuta. A small voluntary entrance donation applies on the road; once you're on the terrace paths, individual landowners may ask for a small contribution to cross.

The full loop takes roughly an hour at a relaxed pace, including the swing platforms and the nasi kuning stalls along the rim. Wear shoes you don't mind getting muddy.

What to expect

  • Best photographed in the first 90 minutes of light
  • Small voluntary donations along the path
  • Loop takes about an hour at walking pace
  • Cafés on the rim open from around 7am
